it's likely that you'll get in. about 90%.

2
Your SATs help a LOT. Your GPA might be problematic for some people (especially since with the economy getting into school can be harder with cuts and more people applying) However, with college applications, your sports, work and volunteer experience will only strengthen your application. You don't mention you have any awards. Did you get the honor roll at any point? Did you get any achievement awards in any sport, volunteer work or otherwise? Don't forget to add those to your application if you haven't applied yet! Don't stress out!! :) Good luck.

Which California State University or CSU have the best bursing program?

San Jose and SF are good for nursing. If you want to go up to the UC level, UCLA is the best.

2
California State University offers best range of bursing program..

3
I go to SJSU and I just finished my freshman year. SJSU has a SUPERB nursing program; however, it's really hard to get into so you're going to have to do really well in the pre-nursing course (at least 3.7) and good scores (TEAS). I'm not too familiar with the SFSU nursing school, but I do know that SJSU's program is superior.

About some colleges in california?

About some colleges in california?
I'm a sophormor majoring in business admin. i'm planning to join the National Student Exchange program, which allows me to study in colleges in othere states for one year. Here are several college in California that i can choose, San Jose State University, Sonoma State University, California State University, Chico California State Polytechnic University, Pomona California State University, East Bay California State University, Fresno California State University, Los Angeles California State University, Monterey Bay California State University, Northridge California State University, San Bernardino California State University, Bakersfield I think i might take one of the TOP 4 on this list , so, can anyone please give me some advice on which school i should take? or just anything you know about any schools above (pros and cons), i appreciate it. Much Thanks!! :)

My favorite on this list is CSU Monterey Bay. It's a FANTASTIC area.

2
If it were me, I would choose based on location and lifestyle you desire. I would avoid the following schools, because they are in areas which I would not want to stay for any length of time: Los Angeles, Northridge, San Bernardino, Bakersfield, Fresno, San Jose, Pomona. That leaves Sonoma, Hayward, Chico, and Monterey. I would go Monterey, then Sonoma, then Chico, and then Hayward.

3
San Jose State as a very good business program. The school is located near many successful companies and there are a lot more successful companies near by.

4
Ironically enough....you have them in a decent order. The Cal State system is strong so it comes down to areas and your specialty of preference (business). Too bad CSU Long Beach isn't on that list! Best of luck.

5
Here's what I know about some of the schools: San Jose State is academically one of the best in the system. It is in downtown with a good nightlife, is a diverse college, has somewhat decent sports (better than the others on your list beside Fresno), and although a lot of students commute from home, quite a few live around campus. Sonoma State is a beutiful campus, with apartment style dorms that are the main reason a lot of people go there. I haven't heard anything bad about it. Chico is widely known for being a party school, and not much beyond that. East Bay (formerly known as Hayward State) seems like a commuter school. Fresno and Bakersfield are ok schools, but the towns are very hot and depressing. Monterey is in a beautiful area, but it is a fairly new school and may not have very good academic programs. The Monterey Bay is also a short drive away from San Jose, so there isn't really a good reason to go there. So, I would recommend San Jose for academics and for all-around college experience, Chico for partying, and Sonoma for beautiful surroundings. I never lived in Southern California, so I don't know anything about the other colleges on your list.

6
Chico is known as a party school but there are ppl that are more academically inclined . Chico has a great business program its a somewhat rural area, it is your typical college town (if thats what you're looking for) and living there is much less expensive than sonoma, hayward, san jose. If you want city life (and great internships) San Jose, East Bay & LA are top choices.

7
None of them are exactly super prestigious universities. So, if you're going to be there for one year, I'd pick one based on its location so you can do stuff outside of school. My 4 favorites would be San Jose State, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State LA, and Cal State Monterey Bay. San Jose State would let you check out the Bay Area. Nice place, altho I much prefer San Francisco and even the East Bay over San Jose and the rest of the South Bay. San Jose State has the only american football team that's worth watching out of that list. They play some decent schools. Pomona, while a boring area, is still in the greater Los Angeles area. It's also a nicer, and more safe area than where CS LA is located. CS LA is in the heart of LA. Bad area, but if you leave the immediate area, you can experience the best LA has to offer. Monterey is beautiful, but you'll have to love nature and/or golf. Can get boring there otherwise if you're not the outdoorsy type. Pretty isolated too. A good alternative to Cal Poly Pomona or CSLA would be Long Beach State or Cal State Fullerton. Not sure why they're not on your list.

8
definitely San Jose State U. it has a good business program and it's in the heart of silicon valley where all the jobs are.

Beyond just the where the degree is earned it is always good to get some experience while working on your degree. Many businesses are hesitant to hire someone for the positions they would want with a MBA without some experience. It also depends on your version of a "great" job. Do you want the most possible money? A job with good benefits and flexibility? Do you want relocate or stay close to home? All of these questions would factor in. An MBA degree is fairly popular among employers and students so do something to set yourself apart from the crowd no matter which school you choose.

What are the best civil engineering schools in California?
I am a community college student who has taken all the math and physics and I want to know which schools to apply to. Who are the best CSUs? I know Cal-Poly SLO and San Jose State are pretty good. Who else? Who are the best UCs? I know Berkeley, Davis, and UCLA have good civil engineering programs. Who else? I can't afford private schools, so, I probably won't look at any.

2
Sorry to be a snob, but the reputation of the school has a lot to do with your future. Really does. So skip the state colleges. Cal Poly is pretty good, but the Universities have the clout. Davis is good. My son just graduated from there in CE. Housing is very good, cost of living is reasonable. Good town. Berkeley is good, but housing is awful. City politics make the place a laughing stock. And, sorry to the other poster but Harvey Mudd is only known to a few that graduated from there. No Nobel Laureates.

San Jose State University or San Diego State -- which is better for a Business Degree?

San Jose State University or San Diego State -- which is better for a Business Degree?
My daughter has been accepted to various California universities and has narrowed it down to San Jose State and San Diego State for International Business or Marketing (Business). Does anyone have any information about which school would be better for business-related jobs (including global marketing)? She is already bilingual in Spanish, having been a foreign exchange student in South America. Anyone with personal or professional experience with either school? She is going to attend a California State University because the degrees are better-designed toward a career right after college, rather than having to go to graduate school right after college -- she is an excellent student and wants to use her bilingual/bicultural skills and gain business/marketing skills. Feedback is appreciated -- thank you!

San Jose State has a pretty decent international business program from what i have heard. Our school has some study abroad programs that your daughter might be interested in. SJ is more known for its technical majors tho such as engineer, and MIS but there overall business program is pretty good. I dont know much about San Diego State but I know pretty much all UC and State college in CA all have credited business programs so they are all good.

2
I am currently a student a SJSU and I do not know much about San Diego State other than the fact that it has a really good Marine Biology Program. As far as business school goes, SJSU COB(college of business) offers great degrees in accounting, finance and management information system. We are very well networked with the tech companies in silicon valley as well as the financial institutions here in downtown san jose. I am not familiar with our international business program but we do have a very diverse student body. Regardless of which school she plans to attend, it would be very beneficial to join some sort of business orgainization on campus. Here is a list of business student orgs here on our campus: http://www.cob.sjsu.edu/cob/5_STUDENT%20SERVICES/s_organizations.html I hope this helps. best regards, tim

Does this sound like a good book?

Does this sound like a good book?
Name: Teacher's Pet Subtitle: If You Fail, You Die. Plot: After being fired due to not controlling her sixth grade class, Mrs. Franklin moves to San Jose, California to teach a new batch of kids in the sixth grade. Each time one of her kids fails a test or doesn't cooperate, shes call that person to the hall and kills them. She hides the dead person outside under the school classroom. Soon the parents start to worry where their kids are, Mrs. Franklin goes to their house and kills the parents.

Yes. The plot sounds interesting. Would this be set in a dystopian world?

3
Okay the day of the murder if the child isn't home on time the parents would alreay be calling the cops. So i recomend maybe having a closet in the classroom that Mrs. Franklin makes her bad students go in and she tortures them until they obey her. She threatens to kill the students if they tell on her. She should look normal on the outside and all of the other teachers think she is a great teacher since all of her students are passing with straight A's in fear of being sent to the closet. A group of students in the class should rebel against her and she should one of them to the closet and torture one of them until he or she dies. That should be the climax of the story. The rest of it could be Mrs. Franklin on the run or better yet goes crazy and locks her students in the classroom and sets it on fire and the students must find a way out. The story should be set in Mrs. Franklin's POV and a couple of the students. That would make it interesting. Hope i helped!!!

No. Not a good book. Very creepy. I would NEVER pay $8 for this!!!! I wouldnt even read it if you paid me. This is horrible. Find another plot.

Here's the lowdown. Get a degree in Biology. Yes your school matters but not as much as your GPA. I would try to do your undergrad in at least a UC school. UCI has a great BIO program. You do not need to go to graduate school. You will apply to dental school directly from undergrad. You will have to take the DAT test which is the most important part of you getting into a dental school. Every dental school has different standards but if you want to go here in CA you'll have to score pretty high. USC, UCSF, Loma Linda, UOP, the UCLA have the best dental programs in order from best to worst. USC has the same teaching method as Harvard, called PBL or Problem Based Learning. This isn't teaching from a text book, rather it is more self learning by working on real life cases and then meeting with professors to go over results. Also there is a lot of hands on dentistry. Whereas UCLA has very little hands on dentistry and is very book based. The cost difference is significant as UCLA is about $100 K cheaper than USC. Your interview and essay will also be a big part of what schools will offer you a slot. BTW. I would really try for a UC school for undergrad rather than a school like San Jose State. The interviewers have a higher opinion of UC schools and frankly their opinion matters. Lastly, there is no 'internship' for dental school. If you have any more questions please ask.

Should a college graduate work at Starbucks? At a restaurant?

Should a college graduate work at Starbucks? At a restaurant?
Here's my situation: I'm 22 and graduated from a reputable college a few months ago. Now I'm living at home and in the process of applying to professional school. I regret not making many friends in college, because now I'm stuck at home by myself, sad and lonely. I found a job as an SAT tutor that pays $25/hr, which is great, but I won't have the chance to meet new people or make new friends, aside from the high school students who I will be tutoring alone in their homes. So, I'm thinking of getting another job in addition to the SAT job where I can meet more people my age. Where should I work? Starbucks? My concern is I have a degree and shouldn't settle for minimum wage. Or maybe I should for the purpose of meeting people? Or maybe at a restaurant where I can earn tips? Any suggestions? I live in San Jose, California. Thanks :) I majored in Psychology and I'm applying to medical school.

You don't state what your degree is in, but your first choice in a job should be in what you majored in.....that would also look good on your applications to colleges for your masters. If you can't find one in your soon to be occupation, and the amount of money is not a concern, find a "fun" job......something you will enjoy doing, will meet interesting people and will fit with your schedule..........have some fun......you're young.........and good luck..........

2
go to clubs

3
That's a personal desicion but I wouldn't work at Starbuck's to meet people. Just go hang out there maybe. You'd be able to spend more time meeting people if you weren't working. Try to join some kind of group that suits your interests, you'll already have things in common w/ these people and find it easier to start conversation.

4
Hell no! Just like the millions of us who work very hard for ha we want u prob wrked very had to get that far, what did u study? Think more of yourself than that....

5
Hmmm... Seems like you always had a hard time making up your mind. Don't worry about working at a regular place like Starbucks. Go for it. You can sure meet some people your age, but they probably won't have a degree like yours. You can still relate and have fun, go out with them. But be careful and don't lose coarse and ruin your life with the bad crowd. Applebee's, maybe? The world is not going to end in a couple of seconds. Take a seasonal break and work at a coffee shop and see if you like it. A lot of professional, hard-working students begin at places like these because they need fast cash to re-pay loans, build credit, and grow independently. Good luck!

6
It would be a great idea to get a part-time job. It doesn't have to be a cafe or resto although these establishments will give you the opportunity to interact with colleagues, customers, and prospective employers and clients. Try getting a temp job in a field that's related to your course. Think of it as getting experience and honing your skills instead of 'a minimum wage job.' A part-time job won't only pay the bills, it will look good in your resume because your prospective full-time employer will see that you made feasible use of your time.

LONG BEACH? Is NOT cheap. And not generally too safe. It's one of the more dangerous cities in CA. Although there are some safe parts there...You will be paying more for rent (ATLEAST 1200/month in a not amazing area). San Jose is great...It's near San Francisco, a short drive to the ocean, etc. It's not really cheap here either. I live near San Jose and work in San Jose and I pay $1580/month + all utilities for a 790 sq ft. 1 bdrm! Alameda is the county I live in...I don't know much about the town itself. And I don't really know much about Santa Ana either. It is safer in Northern CA, but more expensive near SF. This state is NOT cheap. I guess your best bet for safety might be San Jose. I like the city enough...Not too much here...But lots within driving distance.

How can I convince my dad to let me go to California?
Hi I'm kelsey I'm a 13 year old girl. My school has a week which we call MEA week where the teachers have workshops all day everyday and we get the whole week off. My dad is going to San jose California the Thursday before MEA. It has been my dream to attend either Stanford or cal since I was 6. My dad went to cal and he said he wanted to show me the campus. I'm in eigth grade and play varsity volleyball at a large school. I know for sure I want to play volleyball at cal or Stanford. Over the week we r there cal is playing Stanford in volleyball at stanford. We r staying at my great uncles beach house which is a half an hour away from stanford. It works out so perfect even my dad said it would be fun. I would have to fly alone but I have done it before. How do I convince him to let me go?! I want this so bad. I'm a very determined girl and I am about to cry I want to go so bad! Thank u for all of ur help!

Well, don't cry lol. You want to convince him that you're mature. And make sure you emphasize that you want to go so you can check out the school and not for fun necessarily.. Maybe even contact the school ahead of time and try to set up a tour or a meeting with a couselor or something to talk about the school. Those kind of things will show him that your mature and serious about your future and that this trip will help you to achieve your goals.

I'm not sure about which schools there, but I'm SURE you can check out the local college classes, they always have summer programs for students of all ages. If you take a regular college class though, you'll probably have to have some pre-requisite drawing classes already. Though sometimes, some professors will admit you if you have a portfolio that shows you are good at what you do, otherwise, I'd recommend the drawing classes, I think beginning drawing was the best art class I ever had, even though I was already an established artist when I started school & graduated with a BFA, it was still the best class.

High school journalism internship?

High school journalism internship?
I'm a high school junior looking for an opportunity to work with a local newspaper in San Jose, California; I've already written for and been an editor of my high school newspaper for 2 years already. Is there any opportunity for me to find an internship with a newspaper? I want to expand my interests in journalism outside of school, so I'm planning to quit my school's journalism program in favor of a more upper-tier program, such as, perhaps, taking the chance to be a staff writer in my community newspaper, such as the San Jose Mercury News. Any idea on where I could acquire such an internship? Preferably during next school year. Thanks!!

How much should I charge to care for an infant in my home?

How much should I charge to care for an infant in my home?
San Jose, California I have a three old (experienced parent). I have an Education degree and have taught 3 years in public school. Full day of child care (probably 8am-5pm)
Newborn & Baby - 7 Answers

20$ for the day

2
I charge my babysitter $22 an hour for my two kids and she has all she needs and if she needs to go to the store i always leave extra money with my kids and my car so incase something should happen or they would like to get something to eat.And i work from 8a.m to 8:30 p.m

3
For an infant under 6 months, in Maine where we live, it's about $275 a week, full time. What is that about 55 bucks a day?? I'd go on the internet or call other local daycares and see how much they charge. Also, licensed daycares can charge more, but a one on one childcare for a baby is pretty awesome! So I think you should be paid on the higher end.

4
minimum $250 40 houres.

5
Surely not less than $50/day, that'd be a joke. Seeing that you have a lot to offer and you're located in California, I'd say you could easily get away with more. Maybe $65ish? I'd do my homework and call a few places in your area to see what they charge.

6
Check your local paper for other day care providers. Give them a call and ask how much they are charging. Generally infants are more than toddlers.

7
I am currently caring for an infant from 8am-5pm, five days a week and the family pays me $100 a day. That's the norm for my area. If you want, you can check out www.sittercity.com . It's a great website that helps babysitters, nannies and parents to connect. They also have a great section called tips and resources that helps decide pay for your area. It's called the Rate Calculator. You put in your zip code, years experience, number of children and some other factors. It gives you an hourly rate that fits your area and job requirements. Good luck! -Brit

Can I get my tax return for a job in 2005?

Can I get my tax return for a job in 2005?
I live in San Jose, California. When I was 16 I had a job at a school and got paid monthly. I didn't know then anything about tax returns. Can I still get my money back?
United States - 5 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1
If you have a W-2, you can still file.

2
You can still file your return and get a refund (if entitled to it). The statue of limitations on refunds is 3 years, so you will need to file your return by 4/15/09 to still claim the refund.

3
You have up to 3 years from the due date of the return to claim your refund which would be 4/15/09. Go to ires.gov, pint off a 2005 1040EZ, put the information from your W-2 on it, and mail the return to the IRS. They will send you a refund if you have one do, or bill you for tax due, which would probably be unlikely in your case.

4
If you have the W2 file the return today, if you don't have your W2 contact IRS at 1-800-829-1040. IF you are due a refund you will get the refund.

5
If anything was withheld for federal income tax and you didn't owe it for taxes, then yes you can - you'll need your W-2 or a copy of it to file.

Ughhh. Go to europe then. You can ask the same thing, why do so many White's hate minorities and that's not just for California. I agree with your point Legalize it for Freedom. As long as you are minding your business, that's all you need to do. Because I'm sure not a lot of White people are defending Asians, no all Minorities, as you are them. Just because you like "white girls", that doesn't always mean they are going to like you back like you do them. WHATS BETTER.. CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL or TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!!??

WHATS BETTER.. CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL or TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!!??
i live in california and in our area (san francisco, san jose, plao alto.....) we have some great football teams including De La Salle which has been the number one football team in the country. But can Texas football compete??
Football (American) - 16 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1
Of course. What is so great about California's football teams? Alabama is probably good too.

2
California high schools have a much bigger pool of athletes going all over the country than Texas.

3
EVERYTHING IS BIGGER AND BETTER IN TEXAS!!

4
Neither, the Altoona, Pennsylvania Mountain Lions are the best team.

5
all i can say is that they take Football too seriously down in the south... they worship football. Have you seen Varsity Inc. on ESPN? anyways... i think talent wise its at even par. Same goes with Florida. Them 3 states constitutes to many NFL superstars of today. ..ok, im from CA and i played HS ball, so ill be biased and say CA is better :P

6
I think Texas takes their high school football to an insane level. Even though I think it is highly unhealthy how they treat their high school athletics, I think they might be better based on their emphasis. Besides, what else are they going to do in Texas?

7
Is this a serious question? Texas High School Football is almost as big as college football is to Alabama! You go to a gas station in Texas and they sale little booklets on high school football teams. Rosters, coaches, past records, etc. This is no contest. A better question would be if Texas was better than Alabama, Florida, or Pennsylvania high school football. Where did California come from?

8
I've heard people talking about this. Honestly, I have to believe Texas high schools have more tradition in football, though they may not be better. Despite the talent of the players, football in Texas is serious business and I doubt any other state pays as much attention to it as Texas does. And most of the high school football movies are set in Texas. :D

9
Tom Brady- California Ladanian Tomlinson- Texas Drew Brees- Texas Reggie Bush- California Peyton Manning- Louisiana Brett Favre- Mississippi Tony Romo- Wisconsin It doesn't matter what state you played HS football in. Texas and California are the two biggest, so of course they have the most players.

10
Texas might take it more seriously... but that's the fans. Talent wise, CA is above and beyond.

11
NFL!!

12
California is way better and the reason is because they are good despite not having middle school football to teach kids fundamentals prior to getting into high school. This gives California a huge upside to work with once they get to the next level.

13
We have great high school football team in California, but people here don't take football as seriously as people from the South.. High school football, should be for recreational sports for students to compete, not as religious like ritual..

14
Michigan high school football duh

15
California has money which can buy state of the art facilities and recuits but they still lack the talent. Californians are usually softer and weaker which explains the pathetic nature of the PAC10. Texas football blows Cal football out of the water.

16
Neither. The high schools in Florida play a better brand of football than either Texas or California. That's a fact. You can look it up. Money and population and climate determine who's best. Those three states have an overwhelming amount of those assets. That's a fact. You can look it up. Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana each are only slightly behind the top three. That's a fact. You can look it up. Seriously, I have had the privilege to referee high school football in both Texas and Florida, though not California. I feel that the difference in Texas and Florida is outside the lines. Talented players are abundant in both states but the Texas schools generate far more student and community support and participation than do the Florida schools. Drill teams, bigger bands, more cheerleaders, and far more community involvement are a way of life in the Lone Star state.

Depends on where your school is going to be but i can say San Jose is a nice area.

I don't get the category but San Jose is ok. Its expensive for a student though. If you plan to work in technology its a great place to intern or get a start

I really don't know where you are from or why you want to move to San Ho. The San Jose area is one of if not the most expensive places to live in the US. My daughter has an apartment there and pays over 1500 a month. What are you majoring in? Some fields you need to be in "the area" for others you do not. Do some research and see if you can Really afford it.

Most schools have externship sites for you. Mine did since there are certain things that have to be done to meet their requirements. Hospitals are a good place also city labs since they usually don't hire a lot of people and would be happy for the extra work. Since city labs are usually for low income or cash paying customers you should get alot of experience with people who have different medical problems. At the hospital you will get to practice on more children though. Have fun and ask lots of questions. It is a great job and I love it!

I'm a music major and any wher eyou go you have to audition on an instrument or voice. It doesn't matter if you're going for music ed, therapy, theory or performance. You can't just jump in the 1st day of school. Music depts don't work that way. You have to go and play for them a year in advance where ever you go. You play a song consisting of mostly 16ths if you are an instrumentalist and Italian if you are a vocalist. They will through you out the door if you have no background in an ensemble or theory. You will also be forced into 10-13 music classes per semester. So think carefully if this is what you want to do and if you fit these requirements

Eliminating High School Sports?

Eliminating High School Sports?
What do you think? In San Jose, California the East Side Union High School District; the largest high school district in CA has proposed eliminating all athletics for the 09-10 budget. Are there any of school district that has or already implement elimination of athletics. Some of you may say "It's time the athletics are on the chopping block" And before you go on with your rant that athletics are never cut, or that your child in private school are smarter, better than public schooled students... -ESUHSD currently funds performing arts and band. If schools don't have them, interest levels weren't high enough. -In my H.S. the majority of athletes have 3.0 GPA or higher. Following rant is for a women from an online forum (Not that she's able to see this.) (We aren't all liberals, some of us are because that's the way we are, not how the school shaped us into. We aren't weaklings since we are both physically and mentally stronger. Your child will turn out to be losers if they take classes with you and are with you at all time; when they aren't in school. "Something tells me" Your child won't turn out on top because that's how life works; in fact I think he'll live with you longer than you expect. Sorry to be harsh...

I attend a school in that district, and from what I've seen, many of the students are not happy about this. After school sports is a great way for students to pass time, interact with others, have fun (safely), and, most importantly, do what they love. The athletics program helps push students academically as well. Many of the students in sports at my school already do well academically, but for the students that do not, sports help them stay motivated to pass their classes. Also, since colleges emphasize that students should be "well-rounded", this would handicap the students from getting accepted into good schools. And how in the world are students supposed to get athletic scholarships now? Some people suggest that students should just join club sports, but not everyone can financially afford that, especially in a school like mine where about half of the students qualify for free lunch. The athletics program was able to reach out to a lot of students because it was free. Personally, I'm in the IB program, and it's mandatory for me to play two sports to get my diploma. I thought I would be all set for my diploma, and now I don't know how I'm going to reach that requirement.

All the accredited ultrasound schools can be found here: http://www.caahep.org/programs.aspx If you go to an accredited school, you can take the Board exams (which you should do asap) right after your graduation. On the other hand, if you go to a non-accredited school, you need to work 1 year after your graduation before you can take the Boards.

All of the schools that you've named seem to have such great reputations :) There is a website where students may post about the schools that they have or had attended: http://www.studentsreview.com and can type into search and then click 'comments' or such. For general career information: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'computer scientists and database administrators', 'software engineers', 'computer programmers', 'computer systems analysts' or such.

Most of the UC's are excellent. UC Berkeley, as you mentioned, is good and so are UCSD and UCLA. UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are good too. UC Santa Cruz is a fine choice. UC Riverside is fine and UC Merced is probably ok, but it's also a new school so you probably don't want to go there yet. Harvey Mudd is a great school as well if you have the stats for it. I'd skip San Jose State and any of the CSU's. Not sure about the University of the Pacific. I'd say stick with the UC system unless you're fortunate enough to get into Caltech, Stanford or Harvey Mudd.

Actually, San Jose has a very good, highly-respected "working class" degree in Computer Science. CalPoly-SLO and Santa Clara University should also be on your list.

what is your recommendation for colleges in california to study at?

what is your recommendation for colleges in california to study at?
I am going to school in Minnesota and planning on doing the National Student Exchange in California for my senior year next fall, for one semester. These are my options so far: California State, Northridge California State, Chico California State, San Bernardino California State, Fresno Sonoma State University San Jose State University Can anyone give any recommendations? All of these are in areas where I would want to be, I think, but I don't know the area very well. They also all have the majors I need. Also, on a side note, I'm not basing my decision on populations, either. So, basically, I would like to know which ones are maybe the nicest?

Northridge and San Bernadino are in Southern California, which is crowded and smoggy, as far as I'm concerned. Fresno is in the middle of agricultural hell- it's ugly and flat. Chico is a total 'party school'. Sonoma State would be my pick. It's in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco, in a beautiful area near the 'wine country' and you will have access to the art in San Francisco, but it is more bucolic. San Jose is big and crowded, but it would be my second choice.

Forming a high school club, help?

Forming a high school club, help?
We already have our club ideas and an advisor in mind, but we need help with ideas for sponsors and fund raising. Any suggestions on what we should fund raise with? Are there companies in San Jose, California, that would willingly sponsor a new high school club that's meant to do community service and help with the budget for our school/peers? We also want to do something for the holidays but we need some help coming up with ideas for the events. Thanks!

Well, I have started a club in Middle school that only needed minimum funding but in 6th grade, we won a GATE competition and needed money to go to the State so we sent out letters to random companies in our area and most of the responses that included money were from banks. Also in middle school, we had school bake sales that raised a lot of money, enough to cover most of the team tee-shirts, so that might be an idea. Also, you could order some recycled newspaper pencils and sell those because they went fast when we sold them in 6th grade.

2
Look into the Kiwanis club, this sounds definitely like something they would be interested in doing or helping out with. Fund raising is a blast-- you can have mixers (if you charge a door fee they tend to raise a lot of money), a mardi-gras party (sell beads for a door fee) bake sales, car washes, sell t-shirts, pretty much anything. Good luck!

Is it illegal to sell school books on the public sidewalk?
This is in San Jose California. Is this legal?

You probably have to have a permit. This would be decided by city ordinance.

2
is illegal if written NOT TO BE SOLD, on the book

3
Being in CA Yes I agree with J B's answer.

4
I do not know, I do not you who you can contact for the info sorry.

5
In Texas,it's illegal if they don't belong to you, lol.

6
Depends, how your school works. At my bro and sis's school, they can sell back their school books to other students who will need them for the grade they are going into and then use that money towards the buy the books they will be needing for the grade they are going into.

7
Your question is in need of some specifics. Do you mean set up a booth on the sidewalk and sell books? Or just happen to be on the public street and sell a book to someone. There are city ordinances that require a vendor to have permission to operate a streetside venue. So if you're just offhandedly selling "a book" or "a small batch of books" to a person and you happen to be on the public street then that's probably not going to even be noticed. (Although technically you could still be violating some city ordinance) But if you "set up shop" and "hawk you wares" to passersby, even on private property you will have to comply with the city ordinances that governs those actions. Go to city hall and find out what the requirements are, or take a chance and suffer the repercussions if you get cited.

8
no it is not.

9
If yard sales are legal it is legal. If they are texts from a public school, no. Private school or college textbooks would be OK.

10
It's illegal to sell anything out in public without the appropriate zoning permit and vendor's license.

Recommendations for driving schools in San Jose?
I'm in my mid-30s. I went through all the courses when I was younger, back in Canada, but I always lived in big cities so I was never a regular driver. Now that I live in Silicon Valley I *have* to drive everywhere. So, I'm looking for a solid instruction + practical course before I get the California license. I don't have nearby relatives to coach me.

If you can afford it, then San Jose itself would be great. You don't want a long commute anymore because of the gas prices. Other option would be Sunnyvale, Milpitas, or Mountain view.

2
Avoid the east side, downtown, actually the only decent parts of san jose are west san jose and south san jose. sunnyvale, santa clara, palo alto, los gatos are nice city's within driving distance of san jose.

3
I live in Gilroy about 25 min South of SanJose. Its nice here.

4
Live in San Jose. I don't know why so many out-of-state people keep having this idea of living in a different city than they work in and commuting. Traffic in California is bad, and gas prices are through the roof. The novelty of a "nice town" is going to wear off fast. San Jose is a big city and there are plenty of places with good schools and good "family areas".

5
West San Jose, Campbell area, nice....Moorland School District in one of the best, you can goole it...that would be in west San Jose,Campbell, area schools and Westmont High are great as well, good luck and welcome!

Only if that was a high school credited class. Improving a grade is never a bad idea.

2

4
Yes it will be on your transcript. A B+ is a good grade especially since you took it before the time most people take it. I would not retake because it's a really good grade so there's no point.

5
It might count. Ask your guidance counselor to be sure. As far as summer school, it kinda depends on the grade. If you got a C or a D they you definitely want to improve that. Otherwise leave it alone and have a good summer!

How about you just get to school on time? Just a thought.

2
Your concept of "rights" is a bit shaky. Students gave the "right of entry" when they are on time. You abused the privilege. In college, you are not required to attend classes...but your professor is allowed to not allow you to make up work. You may also have noticed that your locker is legally subject to search...which tells you a bit more about "student rights".

You have the right to attend class; you have the responsibility to get there on time. Failure to attend to your responsibility forfeits your right.

Could I still get into a good graduate school if I attend San Jose State for my undergrad?

Could I still get into a good graduate school if I attend San Jose State for my undergrad?
I've gotten accepted to San Jose State University, Cal Poly SLO, and University of California, Davis, Santa Barbara, and Irvine for my undergraduate education under mechanical engineering. Now I've narrowed it down to San Jose State(close to home) and UC Santa Barbara(love the location). But I'm just wondering if I still have a shot at a good graduate school for my masters in mechanical engineering if I attend San Jose State University. Like, could I still get into mechanical engineering graduate schools at UCLA, UCB, or Stanford if I attend San Jose State University?
Higher Education (University +) - 3 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

The simple answer to your question is yes. But I think your not focusing on the real question. First of all engineering programs are geared to teach certain things. The CSU has a great reputation in engineering, especially Cal Poly Pomona and SLO. But they are geared toward students that want to get right into the work force. The UC's are geared toward training students to go on to graduate school, especially for Ph.D.s. They tend to teach theoretical engineering. Whether you go to CSU or UC you need to have a solid gpa, good GRE scores, take proper electives and try to pass your EIT exam. In any case all CSU's are recognized as fully accredited and highly regarded. If I had my choice I would to to SLO and then on to grad school at UC SB.

2
SJSU is so well known in California for engineering that straight A grades there will probably give you at least as good a shot as a mixture of A and B grades at UCSB. On the other hand, unless you are going to live at home for SJSU, you will get the best education for the least money at CPSLO which is the best CSU and is 6th highest ranked nationally on the US News list among engineering school which do not have doctoral programs. SJSU ranks 19th and this is a significant difference in comparison with CPSLO. UCSB ranks 34th for undergraduate progrms among universities which do award doctorates as well as bachelor's degrees.

3
I think it has more to do with your grades. If you can graduate with a good GPA from SJSU, then you have just increased your chances of getting into a masters program. GRE might play a part in it too. SJSU is pretty good for mechanical engineering, but so is Cal Poly SLO and Pomona. US News ranked SJSU in the top 30 or something (overall) but both Cal Poly were in the top 20 or so. SLO was in like the top 10.

Question about Traffic School and Speeding Ticket in California.?
So I just received a traffic ticket for speeding and am trying to figure out if I am eligible for traffic school. I was driving from Orange County (where I live) to San Jose for work and got caught speeding at 88 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. I have not attended traffic school for more than 4 years, but is my violation eligible for California traffic school? Or was I going too fast? And I received the ticket in San Jose, do I need to attend traffic school in San Jose or can I attend traffic school in California?

The only speed I'm aware of that isn't eligible for traffic school is over 100 MPH. And you're allowed to take traffic school to remove points every 18 months, so you're fine. You can take any court-approved school; there are some that you can do online, i.e. while you're in Orange County, such as this one: http://www.drivinguniversity.com/california-approved-online-traffic-school/san-jose.htm However, I'd double-check their claim that it's court-approved.

FYI, the Smothers Bros. went there for a while and got their start in a small club across the street. I am older so I could not comment on how people feel now.

Where You Live What Percentage Of The Hispanic Population Would You Say Can Pass For White?
I went to a predominantly Hispanic high school in San Jose, California and I would say no more than 10%-15% of the Hispanics in my school could pass for White if in White you also include people who look like they could come from the Mediterranean.

Only if they loose the accent and dye their hair light brown or ash blonde.

2
hispanics that could pass for white where i live 5-10% mediterraneans that pass for white 90-95% bi-multiracial ppl that pass for white 5-10%

3
like 5 %

4
About 30% of "Hispanics" are INDISTINGUISHABLE from whites...Everyone just assumes only stereotypical "George Lopez" looking types are hispanic..A hispanic could look like Laura Bush..

5
They aren't passing for white they ARE white. Just becuase American media has decided Latinos are a race doesn't mean they are. Many many Latinos are primarily or completely of European descent (usually Spanish, Portugerse, Italian, and English). They look like mediterranian peoples becuase they ARE meditteranian peoples.

6
Hispanic people who can so called 'pass for White' usually ARE White racially! Remember Hispanic is not a race, neither is Latino. There are millions of full White Hispanics, mainly descended from Spain. To answer your question it depends on the country u go 2. Where i personally live, there are not many Hispanics. I have only met two, a Venezuelan and a Mexican and neither could pass for White. In Mexico for example, 10% of the population is White racially, whereas somewhere like Argentina, that percentage shoots up to over 90%. Southern Brazil also has a lot of White Hispanics, as does Costa Rica and Uruguay. The majority of Cubans living in the US (especially those living in Florida) are White racially also. Sarah: mediterraneans ARE White.

7
1/2, most of the people where I live are either more native looking hispanics or white hispanics.

8
That 10-15% is Really low. Probably because you live in California and most hispanics in Cali are Mexican. Most Mexicans have Aztec ancestry. These are the types of hispanics that are Always portrayed in ¨hollywood´...Another thing, you stated your question completely wrong. Hispanic or Latino is NOT a race. Hispanic only means that the person is from a Spanish speaking country. There are black, white, mestizo, and mullato hispanics. I live in Miami, where there is a majority of Cuban, Colombian and Venezuelans and I would say ALOT are white. Not ´look´ white, but are white. Remember, Hispanic means that they are from a spansh speaking country, while white pertains to race. Dont let screwed up Hollywood standard of what a hispanic person is ´supposed´ to look like interfere with the reality.

Can I go to a different high school in the same district here in CALIFORNIA?

Can I go to a different high school in the same district here in CALIFORNIA?
Alright now heres the situation: I am currently a Junior in high school who lives on the west side of San Jose, CALIFORNIA (thats important for this). I currently attend Lynbrook High School in the Fremont Union High School District. My family is considering moving to the Evergreen area on the east side of San Jose. If we move there the high school I would have to go to would be Evergreen Valley High School (EVHS). Now I have read A LOT, and I mean A LOT of negative things about this school, and I have BARELY read good things about this school. I've heard the administration is terrible. Also That there security is incredibly strict. I've read that its overcrowded. I've read that the people there act hella shady. In addition to this I've read that, academically, it's not too good of a school and it barely prepares you for college despite the high API score (800 something, which I was told was high. Im just a kid I really dont know) I've just heard so many stories of kids transferring from this school because they hated it which concerns me. Theres Not a lot of love for poor EVHS. SO my question is! Can I go to Independence High School or any other high school, in the SAME DISTRICT (East Side Union High School District) as Evergreen Valley High School. Im asking this because 1) My mother says that in the state of CALIFORNIA you HAVE to go to the school assigned to your addressed and that there are NO INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFERS (which is what i assume there are called) Or that these "interdistrict tranfers" are really hard to get approved or something. 2) I really would like to enjoy my last two years of being a kid before the real world hits me in the face. Sorry that this question was really long but I'm just concerned.
